Health officials in San Mateo County reported 19 new cases of
COVID-19 on Tuesday, continuing a sharp upward trend in positive
The number of cases countywide has more than doubled in the past
week, from 64 last Tuesday to 161 this morning.
Although it wasn’t reflected in the county’s data, there
were reports Tuesday morning of another death caused by the
coronavirus. A number of residents at a senior-living facility in
tested positive last week, and one, described by ABC7 as an
88-year-old man, has reportedly died.
Representatives from Atria did not immediately respond to a
request for comment.
San Mateo County, which reported its first coronavirus death
last Sunday, could not confirm the ABC7 report.
“There is a standard process for facilities to report
fatalities to public health and the coroner’s office, with a
timeline to allow notification of family members before reaching
out to the county, so any COVID-related deaths are not going to be
immediately reflected on our website,” public information officer
