Teen dies after hit-and-run collision on Highway 4 on-ramp

An 18-year-old died at a hospital after being struck by a
hit-and-run driver and suffering life-threatening injuries earlier
this week, authorities said.

Around 9:15 p.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol officers
responded to the Port Chicago Highway on-ramp to eastbound Highway
4 and found the teen
suffering from major injuries
, with no driver or vehicle at the
scene.

The teen was taken by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in
Walnut Creek, where he was later pronounced dead.

In a statement, the CHP said the teen was a pedestrian but did
not say why they believed he was on the ramp. Authorities also said
in a
Facebook post
that a person and vehicle of interest had been
located, but did not give any information.

When reached Thursday evening, Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office
coroner’s division staff said they could not release the teen’s
identity. A CHP spokesman did not immediately respond to a request
for additional information.
