VIDEO: 49ers’ Shanahan discusses late fourth-down decision in loss to Ravens

Only a late field goal separated the 49ers and Ravens Sunday in

Baltimore’s 20-17 win
. The game was tied late in the fourth
quarter with the 49ers driving on the Ravens’ defense before
being forced to make a decision to pass or run on fourth and
one.

The Niners chose a pass to George Kittle instead of running the
ball. A Ravens lineman tipped Jimmy Garoppolo’s pass, which fell
incomplete and the Ravens would take over. San Francisco would not
see the ball again.

“Did not mind the decision at all, not running,” Shanahan
said. “But I wish I called a better pass play.”

Plenty of NFL pundits discussed in the leadup to Sunday’s game
whether the Ravens and Niners may meet again in the Super Bowl. If
that’s the case, don’t expect Shanahan to change his call, even
against the stout Baltimore defense.

San Francisco will now face another contender next Sunday when
they play the New Orleans Saints. Both teams are 10-2 and jockeying
for the top spot in the NFC. A loss or win Sunday can decide
whether the team will be playing at home or traveling to the Big
Easy come playoff time, and it could also have implications for
their quest to win the NFC West.
